We see many ingrown toenails here at Columbus Podiatry and Surgery. Ingrown nail is when the nail grows into the skin of the toe. Often causing severe pain, redness and swelling. It’s caused by trauma to the nail, fungal nail or incorrect trimming of the nail. We treat this by numbing the toe and simply trimming out the nail that is ingrown into the skin. We can do this permanently since ingrown nails are often recurrent, and dress it with a simple antibiotic ointment and a bandage and send you on your way with written instructions for after care and antibiotic and a follow up in two to three weeks.
